Health Guarantee
Every puppy leaves us in confirmed good health. Here's exactly what that promise covers.
1What's Covered
Every puppy is examined by a licensed veterinarian before going home and is guaranteed free of contagious illness and life-threatening congenital defects at the time of sale. This guarantee is written into every Sales Agreement automatically — it is not an upsell or an optional add-on, and it applies identically regardless of which puppy, coat color, or delivery method you choose.
| Covered | Not Covered |
|---|---|
| ✓ Contagious illness present at pickup | ✕ Illness or injury after pickup unrelated to a pre-existing condition |
| ✓ Life-threatening congenital defects | ✕ Minor cosmetic traits (bite, coat markings) |
| ✓ Parasites present at time of sale | ✕ Conditions caused by improper care after pickup |
| ✓ Serious hereditary conditions diagnosed within the guarantee period | ✕ Injuries from accidents, falls, or unsupervised outdoor time |
2Key Definitions
To keep this guarantee unambiguous, a few terms are worth defining plainly. A "life-threatening congenital defect" means a structural or functional abnormality present at birth that is reasonably expected to shorten the puppy's life or require significant medical intervention to correct — not a cosmetic or minor structural variation. "Contagious illness" refers to a communicable condition such as parvovirus, distemper, or kennel cough that was already incubating at the time of sale, as distinct from anything contracted afterward through normal exposure to the world. Where any term in this guarantee is unclear, we're happy to walk through it with you before you sign.
3The 72-Hour Vet Visit
Buyers agree to schedule an exam with a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of pickup or delivery. If that exam uncovers a condition traceable to us as the breeder, you're entitled to a full refund or replacement puppy upon return, per our Refund Policy.
We recommend booking this appointment before your puppy even arrives, so you're not searching for an available vet under time pressure. Bring the vaccination and deworming records we send home with your puppy to the appointment — your vet will want to see them to plan the next round of shots. If your vet does find something of concern, ask them to put their findings in writing; this is what we'll need on file to process a claim under this guarantee.
4Vaccination & Deworming Records
Every puppy goes home with complete documentation of vaccinations and deworming treatments administered to date, along with a recommended schedule for your vet to continue. AKC registration paperwork is included as well, along with a folder containing everything a new vet's office will typically ask for at a first visit.
5Genetic & Hereditary Conditions
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, like every purebred, carry breed-specific health considerations, and we take that seriously in how our parent dogs are selected and screened. If your puppy is diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian with a serious hereditary condition within the first 12 months of life that is directly attributable to genetics rather than environment or care, that diagnosis falls under this guarantee. We ask for the same standard of documentation described in the Filing a Claim section below — a written veterinary diagnosis, not just a suspicion or informal opinion.

7Ongoing Care Recommendations
Beyond what this guarantee formally covers, we're glad to be a resource for the life of your dog. We recommend keeping up with your vet's suggested vaccination boosters, feeding a quality diet appropriate for a small breed, and scheduling regular dental checkups — Cavaliers are prone to dental crowding given their small jaw size, and early attention here goes a long way. If you're ever unsure whether something is normal for the breed, reach out; we've likely seen it before.
8What's Not Covered
This guarantee does not cover illness, injury, or parasites acquired after the puppy leaves our care, conditions resulting from improper diet or care, or normal breed traits such as coat pattern, size within standard range, or minor bite variations. It also does not cover incidents involving unsupervised time outdoors, in line with the Safety & Supervision clause of the Sales Agreement, nor conditions first identified after the applicable guarantee window (72 hours for general health, 12 months for hereditary conditions) has closed without documentation obtained during that window.
